On Saturday 19th February between 2000 and 3000 people marched through Bristol in a demonstration organised by BADACA against the cuts. (The BBC is reporting it as 500. Please complain.) It was a prelude to the meeting of Bristol City Council on Tuesday 22 February when a budget cut of £28 million will be made and 600 jobs lost.
The march had a wide range of people on it: the public sector unions, students and groups representing older people and the disabled. It was good-humoured and peaceful with speakers at the rally reflecting a range of those who will be hit by the cuts.
Later on, a group of protesters went to Broadmead shopping centre to highlight the tax-dodgers and robber bankers who have their shops there, including Halifax, NatWest and BHS. Similar protests, called by UK Uncut, took place across the country.
